About me

I studied electrical engineering at the RWTH Aachen in Germany, and made my diploma thesis on “Electrical Detection of Optically Generate THz Pulses.”  My study focused on semiconductor physics, computer simulations and electronics. I received my doctorate at the Institute of semiconductor technology on ”High sensitive and spatially resolved THz-spectroscopy of organic and inorganic materials”. I also became a member of the academic fraternity Bergland Freiberg/Sachsen zu Aachen.

While in Aachen, a former colleague offered me the opportunity to set up his research lab and supervise PhD students at Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken New Jersey.  Although I enjoyed living in Aachen, having an office with a view of the Empire State Building was too hard to pass up. In his laboratory that specialized in High Speed Communication and Femtosecond Laser Spectroscopy, we investigated high-speed responses of new lasers, materials, and optical systems using ultra short laser pulses for high-speed communication networks in the visible and infrared spectrum.

After meeting Dr. Boris Mizaikoff on a visit to our Hoboken lab, he offered me a position as Research Scientist at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, at his Applied Sensor Laboratory. Their research comprised advanced chemical IR sensors, molecular recognition layers, quantum cascade lasers, and scanning probe microscopy. Later, I managed the FIB2Center which is now part of Georgia Tech’s Nanotechnology Research Center. This center provides two dualbeam Focused Ion Beam (FIB) / Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) instruments from FEI.

Now, I work at Siemens Industry Inc. in Norcross, Georgia. Besides of my responsibility as project manager, I am in charge of the development of production test machines and traceability systems for production sites.  Product highlights include, the Combination Arc Fault Circuit Interrupters and the Intelli-ArcTM Diagnostic Tool, which is the first in the market.
